Our motorcycle journey to Norway in 2025 was a long-anticipated adventure, with several blog entries written even before the engines roared to life. On Friday, we packed up our bikes, and early Saturday morning, we hit the road just after 7 AM.

Day 1 – Heading North Through Finland 🚣️
Route: Jalasjärvi – Seinjoki – Lapua – Kauhava – Ylivieska – Oulu – Tornio – Kolari
We took regular short breaks, with a longer stop at Tupoksen ABC for a meal and rest. The first day’s ride totaled 688 km. We stayed in a cabin at Rantalan Majat in Kolari.

Day 2 – Through Kilpisjärvi into Norway 🇫🇮➡️🇳🇴
Route: Kolari – Muonio – Karesuvanto – Kilpisjärvi – E6 → 87 → 86 – Sørreisa
On the “Käsivarrentie” road, a sign warned: “Pavement damage 60 km.” Near Kilpisjärvi, a 3 km roadwork section tested our bikes. Route 87 in Norway was in very poor condition, despite claims of resurfacing in summer 2024 – a true test for our sportbike’s suspension! 😂

We stayed in an Airbnb cabin in Sørreisa, situated next to a horse stable. The host was friendly, and we even encountered goats in the nearby woods.

Day 2 distance: 453 km
Day 3 – Scenic Riding Around Senja Island 🌄️
We rode the entire day in amazing weather, circling the stunning Senja island. At the Bergsbotn viewpoint, we ran into fellow motorcyclists from Finland. We also visited the beautiful Ersfjord Beach.

The total distance in Norway wasn’t tracked exactly, but the overall trip covered around 3,500 km. We cooked all our meals and took a well-earned rest day, especially to help our Gixxer rider prepare for the long ride home.
The Ride Home – One Go, No Sleep 🕚➡️🕓
We left Wednesday night at 10 PM and reached home Thursday evening around 6 PM. That’s over 1,100 km in one go, without sleep! We took short breaks for fuel and stretching.

Temperatures ranged from +16°C to as low as +3°C around Kilpisjärvi, so we had to layer up. We stopped for coffee in Pello, then visited Haaparanta for some souvenirs. At Tupoksen ABC, we grabbed lunch and chatted with other bikers.

Despite a sore shoulder, our Gixxer rider pushed through thanks to painkillers and cooling gel. 🚗
Maintenance, Performance, and Load Handling 🔧
Before the trip, Kawasaki GTR 1400 received a crucial winter service: injector cleaning. This clearly improved performance, and fuel consumption stayed at 5.0–5.1 l/100 km, even with a full load:

- All panniers packed
- Rear seat held a duffel bag and a hiking pack
- Tank bag in use
We noticed that raising the visor in strong headwind (which hit the rear bags) affected handling and increased fuel use by up to 0.3 L/100 km.
Both bikes performed flawlessly. The Gixxer chain was lubricated multiple times, and we checked both bikes thoroughly before heading home.
Special Mention for the Gixxer Rider 🙌
This was her first long trip ever – and she rode a Suzuki GSX-R 600 over 3,500 km, including 1,100+ km on the return leg in one stretch. An impressive accomplishment that deserves recognition.
Nature, Scenery, and Encounters 🌿🐐
We saw reindeer on the road several times but always in time. The views in Norway were breathtaking, and most roads were in great shape.
